Sunflower in field

Adjacent to Santiago College in Orange, California is a small plot of land which is seasonally planted with pumpkins, sunflowers, or whatever. I was driving by the property one afternoon in mid September and noticed several hundred sunflowers blooming all at the same time. With a little back-lighting, the scene was stunning.  I wasn't able to capture the feeling of the little farm but I did capture images of a few isolated sunflowers that I thought were unique.

The background just wasn't photogenic so my only option was to shoot the sunflowers with a long telephoto.  The farm was also fenced off so I wasn't able to enter the property to take any wide angle and close-up images.  I went back to the little farm a week later to ask permission to enter the property but all the sunflowers were way past their peak.  This reaffirms that you've got to take advantage of opportunities when you see them.

The image above was captured on a D2H with 300-800 zoom mounted on a gimbal head and aluminum tripod.
