 Mission Door

The mission in Monterey can provide some excellent photographic opportunities.  Obviously, local artists discovered the mission long ago as the hotels and galleries are filled with paintings of the mission.  Of course, the goal is to capture artistic images that stand out from the millions of other images.  While the painter can paint around other visitors, this is not possible with photography except perhaps images captured at extremely low shutter speeds.

I arrived at the mission at opening in the middle of the week and was fortunate to grab a  few images just as the sun broke out of a early morning cloud cover. The image above was captured with a 12 megapixel digital camera with 28-70 mm zoom lens on a carbon fiber tripod.  Parts of the image were desaturated in post processing to enhance the aged appearance of the door.
