Green Orchid 1

Additional images can be viewed here

I've been visiting the LA Arboretum in Arcadia lately and seen tremendous improvement in the gardens, mostly from a reinvigorated volunteer group of gardeners.  It's really nice to to see this kind of interest in gardening and horticulture in an era of computers and social media.  It's really refreshing.

There are number of hot houses at the Gardens with the orchid garden being the most photogenic.  The only problem is that humidity levels are so high that your photography equipment fogs up in seconds.  The orchid image above just happened to captured on a day when the hot house was being "aired out" for some reason and my equipment remained unfogged for about an hour.  I was able to capture a number of images and just missed even more as I was in a hurry before the mist and fog returned.  .

Image shot with a 200-400 zoom  lens on a cropped frame, 16.2 MP DSLR mounted on a carbon fiber tripod with ball head.
