 River 1

Yellowstone River

Yellowstone in winter is one kick-ass location.  Unfortunately (or fortunately for me), the National Park Service only allows a small number of visitors into the park in winter.  I consider a week in Yellowstone a "bucket list" accomplishment.  The image was captured on a small bridge over the Yellowstone River less than a mile from the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.

I took a number of pictures of the river from different angles focusing primarily on captures that showed more angular flow.  In the end, I settled on a straight-on, "in-your-face" composition because it most accurately reflected the photo experience of the location.

Using a polarizing filter, I played with the amount of polarization.  I tried to strike a compromise between no polarization and lots of sparkle and total polarization with lots of deep greens but less sparkle.

The above image shot was taken with a full frame, 36 MP DSLR with 24-70 F2.8 zoom lens with polarizer on a carbon fiber tripod.
